A Tribute To Jane

My dear friend Jane Youngblood passed away in late December. Many of you are not familiar with her name,
as she has spent the last several years devoting her quilting time to making charity quilts. Jane made and donated
hundreds of quilts to My House, My Home in Milwaukee. This is a safe place for children that have been sexually abused.
I met Jane when I joined my first quilt guild many years ago (Orchard Inn Quilters). We became good friends almost from the day we met. She was like the big sister I never had

Jane excelled at any type of hand work (no matter how hard I tried to convince her she could do it faster on a machine). I encouraged her to share her work by entering local, state, and national shows and competitions. She won dozens of awards for her work at every level. Her Amish quilt won the national Better Homes and Gardens award. Jane never lost sight of the "process" of making the quilt. It did not matter how long it took to create the quilt, as long as she could get the desired look. She had more patience than anyone I knew. One of my favorite quilts of Jane's took over ten years to complete. Jane took pride in using up not only her scraps, but mine too! She would save the smallest pieces, then turn them into leaves on a Trailing Vine Quilt. Many of my daughter's dresses are leaves in Jane's quilt.

When going through her collection of quilts to hang for her funeral service, I asked Larry if I could have an event to share these quilts with other quilters. I told him I thought Jane would like that. She so enjoyed sharing her quilts. There are not many quilters who make quilts like this anymore. This is how the tribute came about.

I hope you will join me in this tribute to my dear friend, Jane. Come feast your eyes on some of the most incredible handmade quilts you will ever see. The stories and scrapbooks of her quilts will amaze you. Jane, I know you will be smiling down on us, as you so enjoyed sharing your quilts with others.
